Our awesome hand crafted farriers knife has been developed by myself with a replaceable blade in mind. I hate throwing knives away just because the blade is worn out. You've got a handle that you really like using only to bin the thing when the blade is done.
With the "Yeti", once the blade has reached the end of its serviceable life, you remove the lower stainless steel bolt and sleeve, pull the old blade from the handle and replace it with the new blade followed by the new sleeve, then just tighten the bolt to lock the blade in place.
I've made a few tweaks to my original design from suggestions made by farriers using the prototype on a daily basis on their shoeing rounds.
I wanted to make a knife that is really comfortable in the hand and easy to use. The handle is ergonomically designed to fit your hand from every aspect that you would want from a farriers knife, wether that be removing sole, trimming frogs or letting in clips. The handle shape and design lends itself to the user with either small or large hands alike.
The integrated topper can be used within the grove of concave section or bridge across the top of it to assist with burning on shoes. The notch really helps with burning in clips.
The Yeti is totally modular owing to its simple design and every element can be replaced if necessary, not just the blade. Meaning you "have a knife for life".
The Yeti has been tried and tested by a group of UK farriers and has been used and abused by them all.
I specifically requested that the knives be treated as any other knife in their possession to really put it to the test.
I've used 3mm Sheffield made SF100 stainless steel.
This steel is suggested to have an increased edge retention over high carbon steel blades. In our testing it certainly hasn't disappointed.
Our Yeti farriers knives are hand crafted by myself.
I heat treat the blades individually in a my Paragon temperature controlled knife kiln to ensure a consistent heat treatment at 58-59 HRC.
Available with right or left handed drop blades.
As standard the Yeti comes with, African Wenge, Bubinga, Zebrano hardwood,
Red suretouch G10 over neon green liners and Tufnol whale over neon green G10 liners.
The black within the red suretouch is rubber, so makes the handle really grippy.
Tufnol is UK made micarta and is slightly heavier and more dense.
If you fancy a different handle material to hardwood please ask as we can use micarta, G10 or maybe something of your choice. The price will differ though.
Please be aware that in my opinion, you don't have the same feeling with synthetic materials as you do with wood and synthetics can be slippery. That said, the guys using the prototype think I'm being fussy.
Please note:
All my knives are hand crafted to order by myself and I'm still a
full-time farrier. As a result lead time is currently 4-6 weeks, (sooner if I can).
